Hi there, i’m Mel.
Once, back in the 90s, I was bored. My mum’s solution; “draw a picture or go stand on your head”. Now that I’m all grown up I can see clearly that she was messing with me. But, trusting child as I was, I considered both options carefully before choosing to draw.
And I haven’t been bored since.
Many coloured pencil horse drawings later I found myself looking through a university brochure, trying to decide what to do with my life. ‘Creative Advertising and Graphic Design’ seemed like a good choice. I knew I wanted to be a ‘Creative Artist Something’. But definitely not the starving kind.
Cue the wonderful world of ideas and getting to call myself an Art Director everyday.
In the last several years I’ve had many good ideas. I’ve encouraged Queen Victoria to give up her throne for LGBTQI+ rights. I’ve made it clear the inherent worth of a turkey should not be based on looks alone. And I’ve helped young Australians see just how cooked tanning really is.
But, without a doubt, the best idea I’ve had so far was to travel around the US and Canada for a year - in a breakdown prone van, with a terrible exchange rate, to scale the steep side of every mountain in sight.
I am now available for freelance or full time work.
